Lollygagging with Rene

Posted on February 13, 2010February 13, 2010 by Ed Medley

Cyclone Rene Feb 13 2010 am JTWC JPEGIt is just after dawn. I am in Pago Pago (PAHNgo PAHNgo), on Tutuila island in American Samoa. On most Saturday mornings I lollygag, putter, don’t do much of anything. So, as usual this Saturday morning, I am lollygagging while keeping Rene company.

Cyclone Rene iis a hurricane, She has been flirting with the Samoas for a couple of days, She messed up a days work yesterday, drenching me. She has been twirling east, sauntering south, waltzing back a bit for a few hours. She is not a fast woman, though – she cruises sedately at a few knots an hour but her skirts are twirling up to 100 mph. She has her eye on us in Tutuila, and after a very windy and wet night, it is eerily calm right now. It was a disappointment not to see her dancing in the dark last night. But now it is daylight I’ll be able to see her performance after this Intermission. I have a second floor room with a balcony that is about 50 feet from the edge of the beach, so I have a good view…
