Eyjafja… whatever

Posted on April 22, 2010November 3, 2020 by Ed Medley

The Eyjafjallajökull volcanic ash (tuff, lapillae, volcaniclastic debris, etc..) is settling over Europe and unsettling a lot of stranded travellers, who may have to settle in Europe if the Eyjafjallajökull volcano keeps erupting for as long as it looks like it may want to.

You skipped over the Eyjafjallajökull word didn’t you? Say after me: Eyjafjallajökull. You can’t can you? Even with the phonetics AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul? Nor can I.

So I need to learn this lovely word and add it to my current party-trick tongue twisters: humuhumunukunukapua’a and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. (Bet you can”t say those either…)

OK: here’s here how to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull
I confess that I admire the folk who HAVE to say “Eyjafjawhatever”, like TV reporters

Not one to dangle juicy words unspoken, here are links to guides to humuhumunukunukapua’a and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Both are a snap compared to Eyjafjallajökull
