a melange; flotsam of memorabilia in a matrix of scribbles and snapshots

I have a single canvas of 6 PNG warriors in face paint signed by John Danger U 09 PNG. Is this traditional subject matter for the tourist industry where various artists duplicate subject matter. It is approx. 42″ X 16″. It was a gift and I have no idea what kind of value to attach to it.
I am not an expert in the practice of painting for the tourism trade. When in PNG I sawa lot of original painting, all primitive, some good, some bad. All a matter of taste. I suppose. I never saw John Danger’s work as copying that of his colleagues. From what I saw, John and and his friends inspired and competed with each other. I do know that John Danger’s work is collected around the world. \
If your painting is a a gift then consider yourself lucky and accept it as that 🙂 But: you might learn more info on prices/values from the Witzig Gallery in Maclean, NSW (www.witzig.com.au), which specializes in PNG and regional art. I know they admire John’s work.
