Italian Frolic

Ed Medley - Gondolas in Venice, May 2009We returned from a much needed vacation in Northern Italy this past weekend.

Flying into Geneva from San Francisco we arrived at 08:30 am. We took a train to the Swiss/italian border near Brig; and by bus, more train and a ferry, traveled to Menaggio on Lake Como the first day- a 30 hour traverse.

For a week we jaunted to Bergamot (a rarely visited gem), Mantua, Verona (which we hated for the crowds, so stayed one hour only), Bolzano, the Dolomite Alps/So. Austrian Tirol (via Innichen/Leinz/Villach), Udine, Triest and Venice. We changed our minds several times mid-journey but that is our pleasure; anyway – we love traveling together by train.

I took over 1500 photos while Italy, and mercifully deleted a third along the way. You can see a selection of them at Flickr or download this 4 MB sample. Winnowing the nicer snaphots is a work in progress.
